Partner Highlight: Tiersa Wodash of Brick and Mortar

Although we fully design + build our own cabins, when it came time to launch Cedar Bound last year, we knew we needed someone to help create detailed architectural drawings for us...

Enter Tiersa Wodash of Brick and Mortar!

Based here in Duluth, Tiersa has been an incredible partner throughout our journey, converting the technical drawings created by Hutch into detailed construction drawings for our clients & cabin kit buyers.

We sat down + chatted with Tiersa (virtual-style), and here’s what she had to share:

What you love most about your work?

Dreaming with entrepreneurs. Sharing my knowledge and skills to make the process of opening a storefront smooth and fun.

Favorite client project?

Honestly it's less about the project and more about the people. It's the relationships I build that keep me excited about what I do. I love to help others succeed.

If I were to speak on projects, it would be generally a detail within the space that allows me to create something unique. Examples of this are the sky wall in Ursa Minor, the star pattern is the night sky above Duluth the month they opened. Or the lit glass wall at Monaco Air showing the flight pattern of planes around the world in a single day, etched into glass and lit from behind.

Where do you feel most inspired?

In nature. When I let go and set aside the work, that is when I can lose myself and creativity can blossom.

Any advice for folks looking to take on a DIY or contractor-built project?

Every project is unique. Build a robust team of experts, even if you are just tapping them for advice. You don't know what you don't know. Understanding what may lay ahead will reduce surprises and headaches. Especially if what you are doing may have code implications or require a permit, it's so important to engage with a local architect, engineer, contractor, or someone who has been through the process.

When you're not focusing on your work with Brick & Mortar, where can we find you?

I co-direct an educational program that brings design and construction activities to middle school youth, called Outside the Box.

Otherwise I'm out with family and friends kayaking, camping, hiking, or catching local music.

Cheers to you, Tiersa! We’re so grateful for your skills + talents. Check out Brick and Mortar online for her full range of services, including architecture design, building & zoning code analysis, storefront improvements, and more!
